Dancing With The Stars: Week 1

What an awesome way to kick off the start of Season 18 of Dancing with the Stars last night! What an awesome first night of Dancing with the Stars last night. What to go stars! It’s always nerve wracking to learn a new hobby, especially while being in front of a live audience, and TV cameras for the whole world to see. wow good on you!!! This outlet was originally meant for stars who had no background in dancing and for them to learn and see their growth and for TV viewers to enjoy the journey along with their ups and downs; their highs and lows. This season has stars who already know how to dance, so its not a fair competition, but none the less enjoyable to watch.

NeNe (Real Housewives) & Tony danced a Cha Cha and it was sassy and brassy but very little Cha Cha in it. For what ever Cha Cha she did do, it was well danced for the first time out. Boy the judges were liberal with the votes 7 across the board giving them a total of 21.

James (Band) & Peta danced a Foxtrot and it was very sweet. Man he looked so handsome in a vest and too mention adorable. Back to their dancing, his footwork was not clean and it became a little hectic during the quarter note section of dancing. Let’s see if the judges are scoring with the same curve as the Cha Cha…and the verdict is yes, its 7 across the board giving them a total of 21.

Danika (Winnie Cooper on Wonder Years) & Val danced a Foxtrot and it was absolutely fantastic. Could it possibly be that she has had no dance experience? Need to investigate. Too good to be true? We’ll see as the weeks progress. The dance was beautifully executed with a few minor details. She is a beauty to watch! Can’t disagree with the scores from the judges, 8 across the board leaving them with a total 24 don’t want to give out 9’s right away.

Sean (New York Hockey Player) & Karina danced a Contemporary number and it was danced okay. I saw a lot of pick her up, put her down, pick her up, put her down, that song could of used a lot more simple movements of expression than all the lifts…Yup he can pick her up we got that…Is that all you can put together Karina? Let’s see what the judges scores were…I think 6’s would be most appropriate…and the verdict is …7,6,7 and Len you are my man…Carrie Ann and Bruno not so much. Leaving them with a total of 20.

Billy Dee Williams (Star Wars) & Emma danced a Cha Cha and for a 77 year old, wow he can move after 2 hip operations. This is what the show was suppose to be about, plain John who knows nothing and is beginning his dance journey on TV. Pretty good attempt. Good for you Billy!!! I’d give him 8’s for heart but I’d have to give him a 6 for effort. The judges however gave 5’s across the board leaving them with a total of 15.

Meryl (US Gold Metal Olympian in Ice Skating) & Max danced a Cha Cha and right out of the gate it was awesome! But some of her leg action needs to be closed, great movement…But another advantage? Derek seemed to have previously helped both of them. Scores were 8 across the board, although she could have gotten a 9 no problem, giving them a total 24 although.

Candice (DJ Tanner on Full House) & Mark danced a Contemporary number and it was awesome, loved it so much! I love it when the choreography and the song match and the movement makes sense. Wow, for a mom of three that was soooo goooood!!! Loved it. Mark your the best…better than all the rest!! ?? Oops back to the scores 9…That was definitely a 9… and the judges say 9,8,8 giving them a total of 25. Really? Len, Bruno what the hell were you watching?

Cody (Singer) & Whitney danced a Cha Cha and his hip hop movement was awesome and his Cha Cha movement was okay, however his footwork needs work … A lot of work on the technical part of the dance. I’d score him a 7…feeling generous, that and my niece will kill me if I say anything bad! Judges scored him 7,7,8 leaving them with a total of 22. I guess Bruno felt more generous than me.

Drew Carey (Comedian & Price is Right) & Cheryl danced a Foxtrot and it was very good for his first time. Loved the fun choreography. What a great start in his frame, good drive with the legs, need some minor fixes in the technical part of the dancing but well done Drew!! Definitely a 7, if we score on that original first curve…Judges say 7 across the board giving them a total of 21.

Amy (Snowboarder) & Derek danced a Cha Cha and wow wow wow!! She danced better than most of the contestants tonight. She shocked me, didn’t see that coming. I hope she keeps it up. Who says that a disability has to get in the way of your dreams! Awesome! Judges scored her a 8 across the board giving them a total of 24.

Diana (Swam from Cuba to the Florida Keys) & Henry danced a Foxtrot and she had a great expression during the dance. Not bad for the first time. A little more finesse and fluidity in the movement. Judges score are 6 across the board leaving her with a score of 18.

Charlie (Gold Metal Olympian in Ice Skating) & Sharma danced a Contemporary number and it was technically danced correctly and of course it was similar to their ice dance routine. So maybe a heads up for the others. Judges score is 9 across the board giving them a total score of 27 .

Good luck to all our contestants and we looking forward to seeing you all on the results show next week!
