Let’s make a pile, shall we?
First: let’s get all the unused gym equipment.
Second: how about all those unread cookbooks.
Third: Foreign language dictionaries, software, and guides.
And while we’re at it, we might as well add in, you guessed it, your… Instructional Dance Videos.
No one is saying this is a pile of junk. It’s just a pile of good intentions. For all of us who have a spare medicine ball in their garage or have contemplated the benefits and truth about dance videos over human instruction – let’s look at some of the criteria for a good dance lesson.
Without a human teacher, you are relying solely on the feedback you give yourself (“I’m awesome!”), and sometimes, the feedback of someone you attempt your new moves with (“That wasn’t very awesome.”).
Even if this were the only reason, this is reason enough to drop everything and take an introductory lesson with Arthur Murray because:
– More gym equipment doesn’t improve your physical fitness
– More recipes won’t change the way you cook
– More vocabulary won’t change the way you speak
– More patterns won’t change the way you dance
They all take lessons. From a teacher. Who is human.
Happy Dancing!
